Here we go again. Another diet, another theory, with not much evidence to support it. But it makes sense. America is fatter than ever. With nearly 4 out of 10 Americans classified as obese, obesity rates have hit an all-time high and people are taking advantage of our glutenous western socioeconomic shortcomings to introduce new dieting methodologies to tame the wild beast of obesity. So, let’s talk about the snake diet.
What Is The Snake Diet?
A promise of a quick fix, with amazing results, the snake diet promotes long periods of fasting, often leading to several days of fasting, followed by one large glutenous overindulging meal. The founder Cole Robinson, who by the way has no credentials at all to be advising people on how to eat, even says too fast for as Fu***** long as possible. Great advice, thank you. The snake diet is based around starvation. Sounds like a winner. If you know, anything about nutrition, then you know one thing. Starving your body, will only cause your metabolism to slow down, and hold on to excess fat reserves, therefore, making you skinny fat. Your body needs nutrients, and food for fuel. Especially if you’re trying to build lean muscle mass and lose body fat.
How Does The Snake Diet Work?
The snake diet entails a long 48 hours of fasting. That’s even hard for me to do. And not to be cruel, but for all you overweight people reading this.. good luck with that. Not eating for long periods of time, isn’t just hard, it’s damn near impossible. But wait it gets better. The best part is that your fast is supplemented with snake juice. Yes, snake juice, which is literally just electrolyte powder made with water, sea salt, and potassium chloride (a salt substitute). May I also add, that there is literally a transformation before and after ON THE PACKAGING… I’m sure that’s FDA approved. Oh, and who created this mystical concoction? You guessed it, that slithery devil himself Cole Robinson. After you drink the snake juice, you can then eat for a period of 1-2 hours, before your fast starts again.
After the initial 48 hours of fasting, your diet should focus on a low carbohydrate, and high-fat diet. Sounds a lot like.. you guessed it Keto. The goal is to get your body into ketosis so that your body can use ketones for energy. In other words, use your own stored body fat for fuel.
Next, after your first feasting session, you fast for 72 hours, which is supplemented with Robinsons snake juice along with an apple cider vinegar lemon juice mixture. Robinson also mentions, that if you’re not losing weight fast enough, then just keep not eating. Yup, sounds a lot like starving.
Does The Snake Diet Work?
Throughout time, fasting has been proven to be beneficial and is often used in several cultures around the world, as a method of cleansing the body. The snake diet itself is based upon the premise of fasting for long periods of time like our indigenous ancestors did. But starving yourself to lose weight is ludicrous, unhealthy, and unsustainable. Not to mention, you’re going to develop a wicked eating disorder. So, does the snake diet work? Well, you’ll lose weight by not eating, but how long you can sustain that for is another story. Caloric restriction is the key to any weight loss strategy, but this is just pure insanity. If you want to lose weight, stick with eating a clean healthy diet, full of quality carbohydrates, lean protein, and healthy fats. Consult an actual nutrition coach if you need help with your diet, to create a meal plan that works well for you and your goals.
