Many of these recipes call for orange, but does it matter which kind? Naval orange, blood orange, mandarines or Clementines? Well, you certainly can use any orange to get the job done, however smaller orange varietals like Mandarine orange or Clementines will probably give your drink a little more sweetness and flavor than the alternative. That being said, you could pick a really nice and ripe naval or blood orange, which will go a long way. Whatever you choose, try a couple different ones and find your favorite!

With winter also bringing things like the flu, we can use all the help keeping our immune systems up and functioning. While alcohol might not be the best option, if you combine it with some orange and carrot juice, this orange juice cocktail is a fun way to get in some vitamins, veggies, and get a buzz. Want to make it a virgin? Add in a pinch of pepper or two, and of course, omit the alcohol. Serve shaken or stirred.

  • 1 1/2 oz vodka
  • 2 oz orange juice
  • 4 oz carrot juice
  • 1 tbsp fresh grated ginger

Mix all ingredients, serve shaken or stirred, with or without alcohol. You can also add some ice to a blender and pulse for a little slushy drink

Hot Toddy Orange Juice Cocktails

This orange juice cocktail takes a new winter twist on the traditional hot toddy. Make this drink and warm up with some really bold flavors, keeping balance between the warmth and the tartness of the alcohol. You can also add a little honey, a little more orange juice, and cinnamon to the recipe if you desire. Make it your own!

  • 1 1/2 oz bourbon
  • 1/2 oz honey
  • 4 whole cloves or 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1 ounce orange juice

Combine ingredients in a heatproof mug, top with boiling water, garnish with cinnamon stick.

Gin and Organic Juice Cocktails

Gin and juice? Sign me up! This orange juice cocktail is a little more traditional, but can be used with regular orange or blood orange, which might be a little harder to find. Entirely up to you on that one.

  • 2 oz gin
  • 2 oz tonic
  • 1 slice blood orange
  • 2 slices orange

Combine all ingredients and serve shaken or stirred. Of course you can swap out the gin for another light colored alcohol of your liking. Serve in a wine glass.
