“I remember my first open…” can be used as constructive criticism or a way to make fun of you. Either way, it doesn't matter. What does matter, is that you register for the CrossFit Open.

Why Should You Register For The CrossFit Open?

Even if at first, you think you don’t like it, you’ll never know until you try. Here are our best reasons why you should sign up and show up for the CrossFit Open.

The CrossFit Open Serves as a Benchmark

The CrossFit Open only happens once a year. They’re variable workouts and your programming should prepare you for whatever Dave Castro and CF HQ is going to throw at you. It’s a great way to gauge your fitness, your training, and to see areas that need improvement. Better yet? It doesn't matter where you rank on the worldwide leaderboard, it matters that you did it. Compare your performance and scores against yourself, next year, and see the performance improvements time and time again.

Learn Proper Scaling Technique

Most every athlete will scale something during the Open workouts. The Open teaches you about pain, about enduring, about sticking through something and gaining some resilience. It forces you to remove yourself from your comfort zone in the best way possible and it shows you what you’re made of. The Open workouts teach us a thing or two about scaling and mentally preparing for WODs.

Work smarter, not necessarily harder. Once you do the workouts, you'll be able to take a big lesson from the Open back to your training: efficient scaling. There are specific movement standards you must follow during the Open which test your ability to plan and follow directions. So why is that a good thing, again? Because you will grow as not only an athlete but a human too. Remember? It’s called functional fitness for more reasons than one.

It’s a Great Way to Spend a Few Weekends

The open runs for 5 weeks. It’s a month-long CF community celebration at nearly every box and affiliate out there. It’s a wide variety of emotions from excitement and anticipation to anxiety and learning experiences. It’s a great way to get more involved, to meet local box-mates, to set some new goals and to probably even have a beer and a donut surrounded by some really great people.

The loudest cheers will be for those who finish last, and even if you’re a complete and total beginner to CrossFit, it will prove to be one of the most unique and positive experiences you’ve had at a box to date. We promise.

It’s One-of-a-Kind

Looking back on all the CrossFit Opens in your mind will give you a sense of perspective, appreciation, and probably some humor. It’s a time where people come together to celebrate triumphs and to embrace failures. It’s a way to see how you get better when you do things in life consistently and efficiently. It's humbling. The CF Open is even a motivating factor for those days and months later in the year where you feel like your training hasn’t been so illustrious.

You remember how hard you got your ass kicked during that year's Open and suddenly you find yourself motivated and smashing weights like you were a few months previous.

You Will Be Better Because of It

Nobody does an Open workout and walks away right after. It kicks your butt no matter what level of athlete you are, or think that you are. They’re meant to be very hard. They’re meant to be a means of testing. They’re meant to be absolutely awesome.

6 Amazing Reasons Why Foam Rolling Is Good For Recovery

It hurts so good. I’m talking of course, about foam rolling. You know, that studded little power strip of foam. Or as I like to call it, the pain enforcer. Foam rollers are used to assist in myofascial release, after a grueling WOD, long distance run, or gripping power lifting session. The reason we foam roll, or neglect to foam roll, is to not only make us cringe, but to both help you warm up and recover faster after a gut-wrenching workout. So what are we going to do? By now, you probably know that Swolverine is an evidence-based company. So, let’s see what the studies say about the proper uses and benefits of foam rolling to help us get back out on the floor to hammer out more thrusters.

Vitamins and Minerals: How To Get What You Need For Optimal Wellness

Everyone is different. Our bodies are unique and have various needs, based on our activity, routines, environments and overall health status. There is an abundance of vitamins and supplements on the market, in addition to an overwhelming amount of information (and misinformation) going in one ear and out the other, making it increasingly difficult to figure out what vitamins to take that are are right for you and your specific needs.
