Tell us a little about you…
My name is Renée Claude Rioux and I live in British Columbia. I started CrossFit just four years ago and it’s been such a highlight of my life. I was an NCAA Soccer Athlete, I have a degree in Kinesiology, I was a trainer for the Canadian Forces for 3 years, and then… I fell head over heels in love with CROSSFIT!
You took that love a step further and became a coach, right?
Yes! I coach full time at two different boxes (Temenos Athletics in Kelowna & CrossFit Vernon in Vernon). I have been to Regionals twice as an individual athlete and just barely missed going in 2018.
What has CrossFit taught you about yourself?
I have been working out very hard in the past few years and learned so much about myself along the way. I know I haven’t reached my full potential yet, and I am so thrilled to keep working hard on it, to see how far I can go, how strong I can get and how much more I can evolve mentally and physically as an athlete. I feel like my journey is only at its beginning.
Since being a coach, what have you learned about other crossfitters?
Since I started to work as a full-time coach a year and a half ago, I realized that helping other people to get better and go beyond what they ever thought possible is something that I live for! I love to inspire people and make them realize that they can achieve anything if they’re willing to work for it.
What type of role model do you want to be for others in the sport?
I want to be a role model of health and strength to people that surround me, not only in a CrossFit competitive way but also in their day to day life! I also think that people can easily identify with me, because I am very approachable, concern about other people’s success and that my journey has begun like everyone else’s! ...
Nothing magic happened. So if I made it where I am today, why not them? :)
