Tell us a little about you…

I’m Kristi Brewer and a wife, working mother of two, and a world-record holder Masters Weightlifter. After 18 months of CrossFit, I discovered my passion for weightlifting and decided to dedicate my ability and time to becoming a 63kg lifter.

What are some of your weight records?

I hold the master's world record, master pan American record, and Masters American records in clean and jerk and total. Additionally, I placed 3rd in the open division for nationals 2018, including 2nd in clean and jerk. In the short time that I’ve been weightlifting, only a few years, I’ve discovered a burning passion within myself for the sport. I’ve had the opportunity to compete on one of the biggest stages in the world. I train mainly in my garage and follow strict programming from Juggernaut Training Systems as a remote athlete.

You mention you’re a working mother of two – can you give us some insight into that aspect of your life?

I LOVE my family and my little girls. They’re the light of my life, but not all days are easy, and I think that goes to say with any mother or family. While weightlifting is a priority, my children come first. You’ll often find me training in my garage around screaming and playing children, fits and snack time, homework and other responsibilities. I want to prove to people that children shouldn’t be the excuse and that instead, children should be the reason you take care of yourself and show them what chasing dreams and goals looks like, by example.

Training isn’t a convenience or a luxury for you, yet you still excel. What advice do you have for others?

I want to be an example to all women (and men) that nothing, not age nor circumstance, can get in the way of sheer will. I’m twice as old as a lot of the women I compete against. Age isn’t a hindrance. Neither should be any other excuse you can find.

You’re a very mentally strong woman and athlete. How did you develop the resilience that powers you through your days and your training?

There are a few things that play into it. We all have our own obstacles, but for me, there’s a few that really drive my motivation to strive to be better in all that I do. I’m hypoglycemic, I’m a special needs mother (and proud of it!), I have a full-time job amongst other things. But they’re not crutches or a chip on my shoulder, they’re my motivation. I consciously choose every single day, to not let the adversities, failures, or challenges in my life to define me. And neither should you!

Why are supplements, in addition to proper nutrition, essential for you and your training?

It’s important to fuel with the right nutrients for your goals, first. Because of my busy schedule, it isn’t always realistic to get all the micronutrients that I need to maintain a healthy body. Getting sick isn’t an option for me so making sure I’m healthy and fueled by high quality and effective nutrients every day is imperative. I choose SWOLVERINE because what you see is what you get – the nutrients you need and nothing else.
