Tell us a little about yourself…
I’m Janet Black and I got into CrossFit about 8 years ago because I was looking for new ideas to take back to my Globo gym routine. I can remember how defeated I felt with my “intro” workout because I believed I was already in good shape. I committed to three months after that day but when that time was up, I couldn’t imagine doing anything else. My previous routine was something of the past. I had no intentions of competing when I started CrossFit but my community saw otherwise. I am grateful for the life experiences I have had through CrossFit and would have never imagined attending the CrossFit Games six years in a row.
How does CrossFit improve your overall life?
I certainly never imagined standing on the podium twice as one of the fittest masters athletes in the world. CrossFit brings out the best in myself as a masters athlete, a mom, a wife, and even a teacher. I genuinely believe that CrossFit is one of the best components that make up my life and I think anyone looking or thinking about getting into the sport absolutely should. All you have to do is show up, give your best, have a good attitude, and see where it takes you.
So you believe CrossFit is for everyone?
Yes - CrossFit is for everyone! It is a way of fitness that changes lives on so many levels. For me, CrossFit was my path to connect with like-minded individuals, push my limits and bring out the best version of myself. You don’t have to set out with crazy big goals, in fact, it’s better if you set small ones along the way. As you accomplish them, reevaluate your progress and set some new ones from there.
It has become the fitness lifestyle I love and want to share with as many lives as I can. I enjoy giving back what I have learned over the years to others and continue to apply the lessons CrossFit has taught me on a daily basis. I am in better physical condition at age 44 than I have ever been thanks to CrossFit and nutritional support through companies like Swolverine. Together we are stronger!!
